MY TRIP TO THE

In 2008 I had the most amazing 2 weeks in Sunny Nevada... The opportunity to go back and watch the team at Butch's school of golf was one that was too good to miss. I spent a week or so with them in 2007 and was very, very impressed with the way they ran the schools and their enthusiasm for teaching this wonderful game.

This year we stayed with Shawn Callahan (one of Butch's senior instructors although he himself is very youthful!! An incredible teacher who has worked with the best players in the world alongside Butch. He now coaches Charlie Hoffman amongst other players.) in Henderson... a true pitcure of what it is like to live in Las Vegas. The strip doesn't really give you a realistic idea of life in this incredible part of America...

I spent the first week watching Butch and the team teach a 3 day school amongst other private lessons. Buzzing around on a buggy with Butch was fun, Cascata is a trulty amazing test of golf and awesome to look at! The contrast between desert and green, green grass is a touch surreal. But then again most of Vegas is surreal to me. Cascata is always in incredible condition..They spend a fortune pumping water up the mountain for it to literally cascade back down again. Making for some rather impressive water hazards.

Watching the team teach the 3 day schools gives me a huge amount of self-belief in my own teaching. More importantly it fills me with even more enthusiasm for coaching this fantastic game. (I didn't think that was possible but a top up every now and again never hurts!!)
Andy Gordon joined us for the second week we were out there and was also filled with the joys of all that goes on at the Butch Harmon School of Golf! Oh how we'd love to have a similar set-up in Southampton... A very simple set-up done really, really well.

Observing Butch (and the others) teach reminds us that less is in fact more, pupils just don't need 25 swing thoughts, 1 or 2 is just fine. They simply don't need to know everything and prioritising swing faults has a chain reaction where one fix fixes a few others along the way! Great! Done really well this makes for a much more effective teaching method, something I've always strived for in my coaching. It is brilliant to watch all the guys coach as each have their own styles, there are so many ways of saying the same thing to a pupil. Really fascinating stuff. Communication really is the key to a unlocking a golfers true potential!!

The 2 weeks I was there with Ben (my husband) were brilliant... I watched Butch teach Natalie Gulbis, had a putting competition with both Butch and Nick Watney (USPGA Tour player), played some incredible golf courses and made some true friends. Vegas rocks!

Thanks again to Butch, Shawn, Don, Greg, Matt, Carole, Jeff and everyone else over in Nevada for making us feel so welcome and at home over there! Can't wait to visit again!

More information on Academies abroad will be appear soon...

2007 VEGAS TRIP!!

Spending 7 days in Vegas last year watching Butch and his team teach will certainly take some beating...but I'm off again for 2 weeks this time! Very very exciting!
